an interesting time.

IT RAINED YESTERDAY AS I WAS HEADING HOME. So I was waiting outside in the pouring rain like an idiot, smiling and filled with glee. DEAR UNIVERSE, THANK YOU FOR SMILING DOWN UPON ME.

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and repost as The Controversial Survey? Not really, but I'm doing them anyway.
[02] Would you do meth if it was legal? No. I was told to "just say no" to drugs. Plus, meth is nasty and wrecks your life.
[03] Abortion: for or against it? I don't think there's anyone out there who intentionally wants to kill a fetus, so it's a really being eithe pro-choice or pro-life. That being said, I'm definitely pro-choice. I've never actually admitted it to anyone in my family, because I was raised a Catholic and the majority of them are pro-life. I think it's wrong for a government to have control over a woman's body, and I don't want someone pushing their personal beliefs and values on me. It should be up to each woman to decide what they want to do with their unborn child.
[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president? Not at all. Germany has a female Chancellor, and that country's still around. She doesn't get any special treatment because she's a woman. As long as they're qualified, I have no problem with a female US president.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty? I don't know. I don't fully understand its purpose. I do know that it's not right to kill someone who killed another person. I think a life sentence in a maximum-security prison serves the exact same purpose, and there's less risk involved with that option.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already? I don't do drugs, so I could care less. I silently fear that if it is legalized, the number of users will go up and more drug-related problems could arise.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex? I've been taught that as a Catholic, you should wait until after marriage to have sex. But I think you can have it beforehand, as long it's with a person you love and trust and are comfortable doing it with them.
[08] Do you believe in God? Yes and no. I know He's there, but I have no idea why. Even though I was raised Catholic, I've come to this point in my life where the my beliefs and the beliefs of the Catholic Church don't match up. So I basically only rely on God when I need or want something to happen. Which I know is selfish, but I don't see Him as having another purpose.
[09] Do you think same-sex marriage should be legalized? Yes. I think it's unfair that same-sex couples aren't afforded the same rights as a married man and woman. I think it's absolutely pointless to have a consitutional amendment that defines marriage; the government shouldn't get involved in other people's lives just because they're different than the norm. As long as the two people love each other and are willing to committ their lives to one another, I have no problem with it.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA? No. America is a nation of immigrants, and although many of our ancestors didn't come here illegally centuries ago, many were discriminated against, like the Hispanics today. They see our country as a land of opportunity and freedom, we shouldn't deny them the opportunity to come here just because they hopped a fence instead of going through necessary government channels. I definitely think it should be easier for illegal immigrants to become legal citzens.
[11] A twelve-year-old girl has a baby. Should she keep it? No. I'd be surprised if the baby is born at all. A 12-year-olds reproductive organs aren't yet suited for carrying a fetus, and its highly likely that the baby will die in utero or die within hours after birth. Even if the baby survives, it won't be fully healthy. I don't think a 12-year-old can handle that. She'd be better off putting the baby up for adoption, where it will be taken care of by parents who are able to take good care of the child, with whatever problems it may have. There are plenty of couples out there who want children but can't have them for whatever reason.
[12] Should the drinking age be lowered to 18? No. I know girls I went to High School with that drank all the time while there. If the drinking age is lowered, this scenario could become more common, and with kids that age driving, there'd be so many DUI's and alcohol-related deaths, which is never good.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off? Most definitely. Sadam is dead, no one from Al-Qaeda is there, and we found no weapons of mass destruction. So it's time to bring the troops home as soon as possible. Let the Iraqi's deal with their transition to democracy.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal. This is another matter I learned about but never fully understood, so I don't really know. I know personally that if it came down to me dying or being severly handicapped after a serious accident or injury, I'd want to die. I don't think the doctor who helped end my life should be in prison, as they were only granting my requests as a patient. But it all depends on the situation.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children? No. I was spanked several times in my childhood, and I hated it. I don't want my children to go through what I went through. A firm scolding and putting the kid in time-out usually does the trick.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars? Frankly I don't see the big deal with our flag, but I wouldn't burn it because I know it's wrong. It's a representation of what the US stands for, and when you burn it it's like you don't like America. Even though are plenty of things in the country I don't agree with, I don't want the label "America-hater" put on me.
[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama? Definitely Obama. Our country has fallen on some hard times in the past few years, and Obama's policies and plans seem like just the change that our country needs. I just think that McCain is too out of touch with the American people, and he may make things even worse. He's old and not in the best of health, so if something were to happen to him, Palin, who has little experience, would become president, and I can't even imagine what might happen then.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers? Slightly. I've never really talked about my opinions on controversial issues because they go so much against what I was taught to believe when I was younger, and now that I've voiced my own opinions here, I'm afraid of the consequences. Plus, I have a really hard time explaining what I believe and why I believe certain things. I sort of care what people think regarding these issues and don't want to complicate things.
I'm in the process of working on the "10 random facts" meme that's a companion to this one, but I'm having a hard time coming up with random facts about me. My life is not all that interesting, guys.
-
I have my Astronomy exam in a half-hour and then I have to do my review questions for Government because I have a chapter quiz tomorrow. I've got that Obama phone bank tonight and then it's time for Wednesday Night TV, so no time to do the Government homework later tonight. I hate being busy because it makes me stressed and I don't do well when I'm stressed. Thankfully after tonight I'm done with stuff for the week, so I can relax. All I have for homework this weekend is Stats and reviewing for my Speech quiz on Tuesday; that should be easy, because it's directly from the book.

I decided not to attend the debate party tomorrow night. I'd rather make fun of Sarah Palin from the comfort of my own home, thank you very much.
