mydarling: (08; yes we can)
My American Government class is going to be interesting. The professor is old and reminds me a lot of my high school anatomy teacher (who I really liked), so that's a good sign. And he's a pretty good teacher. The only downside to him is that he has us watch PBS' Newshour with Jim Lehrer, and I'm not a huge fan of PBS. But we can get extra credit on exams if we watch Newshour summaries from the week and answer questions related to them. So there's that.

I got a call last night from the local Obama campaign asking me to volunteer and I agreed because I've always wanted to work on a political campaign but have never been old enough. I'm pretty excited about the whole thing, and now that Detroit's mayor resigned today (Michigan's considered a "battleground state" in this election, and Obama refused to campaign heavily in Detroit because of the controversy surrounding the mayor), the work I do seems to actually matter.

I only watched a little bit of the Convention last night, mostly because I couldn't stand it. I saw Rudy Giuliani's speech and literally wanted to jump through the TV and throttle him, because it was just THAT BAD. And I ended up turning off the TV and going to bed during Sarah Palin's speech, because I just couldn't take anymore of it.

Republicans are bitchy and focused entirely on the fact that John McCain's a war hero and his experience in combat qualifies him to be president. Which is true (and I respect all that he's given to our country in that regard), but that's not the only thing that the President does. Serving as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is only one a small part of the President's job. Also, they're all old and white. They had a shot of a black guy and Graham asked what he was doing there. WE WERE CONFUSED.

I may be getting an iBook! There's a deal through College that if you buy a Mac, you get a free iPod. I asked Dad about it, telling him that I'll need a laptop next year and an iBook is recommended for Video Production, which is the major I want to go into. Dad will think about it (and discuss the deal with Mommy, I'm sure), and I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've always wanted a Mac (because they're so pretty, and have a better reputation than Windows), and to possibly get one is an opportunity I can't pass up.
